Pete Handley 1989 - 2014

The Musician

Pete's percussion early years started with The South West Surrey Concert Band and under the tutorage of Jackie Kendle was trained for his conservatoire auditions.

Pete was accepted into the Royal College of Music in London and went on to study BA Music Performance with a specialism in Percussion.

While he was at the RCM he developed an interest in Drumline. This is a high volume, precision drumming style similar to the marching bands in America. Pete put his own style into the performances which was equally precise drumming but with more freestyle choreography to create an immersive performance. He contributed to the founding of The Red Hocks, the RCM drumline, during his degree course.

Peter graduated from the Royal College of Music in 2011 with a First Class Honours degree in Music Performance.

Percussion was Pete's passion in life and his aim was to pass on this passion through performance, teaching and enthusiastic immersion in all things percussive. Pete's personal project was the formation of Box9 Drumline. His dream was to push creative artists together and let them spark off of each other. The Box 9 title was to be the umbrella brand and Box 9 drumline was to be just the beginning. His vision was to have Box 9 Jugglers, Box 9 ballet dancers, Clowns, Cheerleaders etc. He could then mix and match the creative skill sets into a mobile precision percussive performance.

Box 9 still performs today and actively supports Pete's charity.
